CHAPTER ONE · BETA VERSION

There’s a moment — and you’ll know it when it comes — when you stop pretending. When the story you’ve been telling yourself collapses under the weight of what you’ve actually done.

I went to prison. I’m not telling you that to shock you — I’m telling you because that statement, the one I spent years unable to say out loud, turned out to be the most honest sentence I’d ever spoken. And honesty, it turns out, is the only real foundation you can build on.

This chapter is about what happens in the space between when everything falls apart and when you finally decide to do something about it. It’s about the particular silence of a cell. The unexpected clarity that comes when the noise of ordinary life goes quiet. The strange way that losing everything can feel, eventually, like the beginning of something.

I’m not going to romanticize it. Prison is not a retreat. It’s not a reset button or a gift. It’s punishment — deserved, in my case. But I’m not willing to let it be the final chapter in my story. Nor should you let your rock bottom define yours — whatever that looks like.

Rock bottom looks different for everyone. For some it’s prison. For others it’s a divorce, a bankruptcy, a health crisis, or just the quiet terror of realizing the life you built isn’t actually yours. What matters isn’t the shape of the bottom — it’s what you choose to do once you’re standing on it.
